2012 Tirreno-Adriatico Starts Tomorrow


The 2012 Tirreno-Adriatico, seven stage, race gets underway tomorrow, March 7th. This year’s race starts in San Vincenzo on the Tuscan coast with a 16.9km team time trial. It ends in San Benedetto del Tronto on Tuesday March 13 with a 9.3km individual time trial. Stage details here.

For GC Cadel Evans, last year's winner, is a favorite along with Italians Vincenzo Nibali, Michele Scarponi and Stefano Garzelli. Other riders to watch: Roman Kreuziger, Peter Velits, Rafal Majka, Joaquin Rodriguez and Thomas Lovkvist. We shouldn't forget also the winner of Strade Bianche, Fabian Cancellara.

The sprinters that will contest the sprint stages are world champion Mark Cavendish, Matthew Goss (winner of the last Milan-Sanremo), Oscar Freire, Tyler Farrar, Alessandro Petacchi, Andrè Greipel, Gerald Ciolek, Daniele Bennati and Sacha Modolo.

Riders looking for stage victories will be Philippe Gilbert, David Millar, Peter Sagan, Edwald Boasson Hagen, Johnny Hoogerland and Italians Giovanni Visconti (national champion), Alessandro Ballan, Filippo Pozzato and Oscar Gatto.
