Italy's Medals at 2012 World Championships

Disappointing results for the men but the Italian women were able to bring two bronze medals home:

(L-R): Rachel Neylan (Australia), Marianne Vos (Netherlands) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Italy)
After five consecutive silver medals in the Women's Elite road race, Marianne Vos (Netherlands) was able to win gold. The only women able to go over the final climb of the Cauberg with Vos were Rachel Neylan (Australia) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Italy) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Anna Strickler
Anna Strickler (Italy, from Alto Adige) finished 3rd in the Junior Women's road race behind winner Lucy Garner (Great Britain) and 2nd place Eline Gleditsch Brustad (Norway).

  1. 21 year old Elisa Longo Borghini's bronze is particularly impressive. She beat many older more-experienced racers, including several previous champions/grand tour winners. She's got a great future.
