Purito Rodriguez Visits Sidi

At the Sidi Sport headquarters yesterday, in Maser (Treviso), Dino Signori and the entire Sidi staff embraced the number one rider in the 2013 World Tour classification, Joaquim Rodriguez. To celebrate their champion Sidi had a cake made with a decoration worthy of the world's top rider...in fact, the cake was embossed with the image of the Spanish ace's remarkable victory at the Giro di Lombardia, the last in a long line of achievements for Purito Rodriguez, who bounced back from second place at the World Championships in Florence with this fantastic success.

“I'd like to thank Dino Signori and all my friends here at Sidi who always give me such a warm welcome. Fortunately the season is over and so we can go ahead and have that extra piece of cake," joked Joaquim Rodriguez, who was accompanied on this visit by his team mates from Team Katusha, Angel Vicioso, Alberto Losada, Maxim Belkov and Xavier Florencio, who have been on a retreat on Lake Garda. “It was a long, hard season; of course, it's too bad about the World Championships, where I came so close to realizing my dream of a rainbow jersey. However 2013 also brought me some fantastic achievements, both in the one-day races as well as the major tours, in which I always tried to do my best and figure as a major player. It was great to repeat last year's success at the Lombardia, even because this victory played a key role in me winning the final classification of the World Tour for the third time after 2010 and 2012.”

“It's too bad we couldn't celebrate a rainbow jersey for Rodriguez, but he is still one of our best athletes and one of the strongest riders in the group. I like him because he has always behaved like a serious professional and he is also a great man even when he's not on his bike," says Dino Signori, founder and owner of Sidi Sport. “Purito has been using Sidi shoes ever since he rode among the under23 and Sidi has been with him for all his most amazing victories as a professional. I'm sure he will still be able to deliver even more fantastic achievements.”

Chris Froome Visits Sidi in Maser (Treviso)

Chris Froome, winner of the 2013 Tour de France, dropped in for a visit at the Sidi Sport headquarters in Maser (Treviso). Following Sunday's difficult and busy day riding with the British national team at the World Championships in Florence, he took advantage of his jaunt in Italy to pay a visit to Dino Signori, the man who has been "shoeing" the British champion since 2010.

Froome uses the Sidi Wire shoes the top models in the Sidi Sport collection, which were in yellow this year in a special edition for the champion from Team Sky to wear during the conclusive showcase in Paris.

"This is my first visit to Sidi, it really meant a lot to me to meet Dino Signori in person, he's a man with extraordinary charisma," says Chris Froome. “I like Sidi shoes not only for their appealing design; I also benefit from a technical standpoint because they join lightweight qualities to sturdiness, two fundamental aspects for obtaining maximum performance, even in the most difficult race situations. I really appreciated the yellow Sidi Wires that Sidi made especially for me for the final showcase on the Champs Elysées. Now they hold a special place in my memories because they were one of the elements that contributed to this success. The victory in the Tour was extraordinary, but it hasn't changed my life, I'm the same guy I've always been for my friends, family and team mates. In the morning I get up and go out to train on my bike, this is my priority. Of course now there are many more commitments and when I go to the supermarket to do the grocery shopping it's nice to run in to people who recognize you and stop you for a picture and an autograph, this had never happened to me before. Certainly I have more responsibility on the team and I know I'm an example even for the younger riders who are new to cycling, but I'm not afraid of this; on the contrary, it's a source of pride. The Giro di Lombardia (this Sunday, October 6th) will be my last race of the season, then I'm going to take a holiday in Kenya and after that I'll start thinking about 2014, when my main objective will once again be the Tour de France."

SIDI Casual Wear Shoes, the Frame

SIDI has introduced their "Frame" casual wear shoes, sure to identify you as a cyclist! SIDI says the the shoes are made with a high breathability synthetic upper with a 3D coating mesh to make the shoe light and comfortable. Cost about 75 euro, to be available soon in stores.

My understanding is that these shoes are part of the SIDI DESIGN SERIES (S.D.S.), a collection of products that are designed by Sidi’s engineering/design team but are produced by outside suppliers. Sidi prefers to keep it very clear as to what items are manufactured at its own factories and what items are sourced to outside suppliers. In this way the integrity and value on the Sidi brand is maintained for all its clients and rider’s while at the same time providing the market with some interesting new products from the new SIDI DESIGN SERIES brand.

The winning partnership between Sidi Sport and Liquigas Sport continues. Once again Sidi Sport shoes will be used by Liquigas-Cannondale.

Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali and all the other riders from the Liquigas-Cannondale team will be supplied with the new Ergo 3 Carbon Vernice and the Genius 6.6 Carbon Lite model, shoes from the top of the line in the Sidi Sport collection for the road sector.

The new Ergo 3 Carbon Vernice is the shoe which is the new top model for 2012. For Liquigas Cannondale, Sidi chose to produce this shoe in special colors. Dino Signori (right), founder and owner of Sidi Sport, and his daughter Rosella presented the new shoes to Team Manager Roberto Amadio with the Ergo 3 Carbon Vernice in special graphics dedicated exclusively to the team. These special graphics were custom made for the team and are not available in stores.

The Ergo 3 Carbon Vernice is lighter and more resistant than ever, made in Lorica® microfiber, patent leather and nylon mesh in a mix of technology and design. For the first time the shoe features graphics printed both on the external uppers as well as inside the shoe for an even more attractive look. The Vent sole in carbon features an air flow mechanism that guarantees major breathability for the foot.

The shoes were presented during the dinner organized by Sidi Sport to celebrate San Crispino, the "Protective Saint of Shoemakers".

Hate Riding Indoors During the Winter?

Hate riding indoors during the winter? Winter riding outdoors requires keeping warm, especially keeping your feet warm. Before heading out this winter consider the several solutions SIDI has for winter riding.

First, put on some "Warm" socks. They are elasticized and produced in Thermolite, a light, breathable, fast-drying material that can retain heat and provide comfort without additional weight.

Second, put on the SIDI "Hydrogore" winter road shoes which are designed to keep your feet warm and dry on even the nastiest of days. A high Velcro closure keeps cold and humidity from entering the shoe and the Gore-Tex membrane insures your feet stay warm despite cold, wind and rain. Their mtb version of this show is the "Diablogore".

Lastly, for those particularly nasty days you can put on a pair of "Thermocovers" to make it three layers of protection against the elements.

ICJ Reader contribution contest will run 1 January to 15 February, 2011. Details here.

Vincenzo Nibali Visits SIDI, and the Hospital

Vincenzo Nibali, "the shark from the strait", recently visited the SIDI headquarters in Maser (Treviso). Winner of the 2010 Vuelta a Espana, Nibali brought Dino Signori a really special gift, the red jersey from the Vuelta with one of his two Ergo 2 Carbon Lite shoes, autographed with a dedication to Sidi.
"Shoes are essential because they are a means by which the athlete is joined with his bike", explained Nibali. "It's the transmitter that expresses the force and power of the muscles to the road. I have a special relationship with my Sidi. Usually, over the course of a season, I don't use more than four pairs of shoes. It's become a tradition that about three weeks before a big stage race or goal I'm preparing for, I get a new pair of Sidi, put on the new clips and begin preparing to take on the adventure. It's almost become a good luck ritual. All the Sidi models are extremely resistant and last a long time, but in a major three week race, your shoes, like your bike and all your equipment, undergo a great deal of stress: falls, rain, dust and mud. For example, after the Giro I continued using the same Ergo 2 Carbon Lit for about three weeks before changing them. It means a lot to me to line up at the start of each new major event with my shoes in perfect shape, neat, clean and in order; that's just how I am."

As a gift Nibali was presented him with a pair of Ergo 2 Carbon Lite in the new “bronze” version.
On Tuesday Nibali checked into the hospital in Lucca for the removal of a plate and screws that had been inserted after he sustained a fracture of his left collarbone at the Elenco Tour in 2009. The operation lasted two hours and was successful.

SIDI T-2 Carbon Composite for Triathlon and Duathlon

SIDI, located in Maser (Treviso), has announced a new design for their triathlon specific shoe, the T-2 Carbon Composite. In addition to the original all white shoes, the shoes will be available in silver snake skin.

Versions of the shoes will be available for women and for MTBing.

Beyond all the technology already applied to normal Sidi Sport cycling shoes, the T-2 Carbon Composite model features air ducts on the uppers which allow for major aeration allowing the athletes’ feet to dry completely after the swimming race and permitting them to breathe as much as possible during the cycling phase and in the build up to the final run.

Sidi Limited Edition Ergo 2 Carbon for 50th Anniversary

From our friends at Sidi:

Maser (TV), January 18th, 2010 – The founder of Sidi, Dino Signori, still leads the company today with the same spirit and enthusiasm as his first day. In 2010, Sidi Sport marks an important milestone, celebrating half a century. It’s been 50 years but you’d never know it… like a fine red wine, with each passing year the Sidi brand has acquired prestige and value.

To celebrate this anniversary, the company from Treviso has produced a limited edition Ergo 2 Carbon shoe which confirms itself as the top of the line model in the Sidi Sport collection.

Ergo 2 Carbon 50 features new graphics and an elegant design. It also introduces the new, hand-made Carbon Lite Sole, designed and developed using a mix of composite materials that can maximise the resistance of a sole that undergoes long periods of stress during high performance, while at the same time making it lighter and crush proof. Ergo 2 Carbon 50 graphics are essential and elegant. The all white uppers are embellished with golden trim, the Sidi logo and the unmistakable green white and red Italian flag, making this shoe an authentic jewel of design and technology.

Meticulous attention has been paid to every detail in order to further add to the prestige of this special edition model. The Ergo2 Carbon 50 kit comes complete with a practical white and gold shoes bag, with attractive packaging similar to a chest containing all the technical information about the product as well as the history of Sidi’s first 50 years. Don’t miss this Sidi limited edition, available starting in March from the best bicycle shops and Sidi Sport dealers, at a suggested retail price of € 330.00, including vat taxes.

This shoe is destined to become a collector’s item for all cycling fans, who can close their eyes when they wear them and imagine for a moment that they are living and breathing all the magic and excitement of Sidi’s last 50 years. Sidi was founded in 1960 as a workshop and laboratory for making sports shoes, and it has grown to greatness through the feats of champions like Hinault, Moser, Fignon and Kelly. These pioneers were followed by Saronni, Hampsten, Fondriest, Zulle, Indurain, and Ballerini, and then 2 time national champion and Olympic gold medallist Bettini, continuing on to today’s champions which include Basso, Pozzato, Freire, mountain bike ace Absalon and the king of the Tour, Giro and Vuelta, Alberto Contador. Starting with the 1973 Titanium model up to the 2010 Ergo 2 Carbon, Sidi’s secret continues to be summed up in technology, design and comfort. It’s been 50 years of passion and great victories, all for the love of sport. This tradition continues to make us a top player, thanks to the ongoing dedication of the Signori family, with daughter Rosella and son Daniele, and the entire Sidi staff working side by side at the new headquarters in Maser (Treviso) which was inaugurated in 2008, where concept, development and manufacturing of great shoes all come together in one place. Another one of Dino Signori’s dreams come true.

For Cyclists Who Stop At Nothing

SIDI wants us to know they have something new for cyclists who are unstoppable even in the coldest rain and snow of winter: new cycling shoes in road (Hydro Gore) and mtn bike/cyclocross (Diablo Gore) versions. These two models have been designed to take on any terrain in all types of weather, even under the most extreme conditions. This is what SIDI has to say:

Made in Gore-Tex, using the structure and technical characteristics that distinguish the entire Sidi Sport line of shoes, these models also feature enviable thermal qualities. The Velcro closure protects the high part of the foot above the arch and reduces the infiltration of cold air and humidity.

These shoes have already been chosen by many professional riders for their winter training regimens, and they are also the perfect choice for all amateurs and cycling tourists who don’t want to sacrifice outdoor riding even in the most challenging weather conditions. Hydro Gore, complete with the millennium 3 sole, is ideal for performance on the road.

Its twin, Diablo Gore, complete with the mtb competition sole, is particularly adapted to fans of off-road and cyclocross.

The SIDI Sports headquarters are in Maser (TV). Alberto Contador visited in November to pickup his new Genius shoes with graphics featuring three crowns: yellow, pink and gold to commemorate his three respective victories in the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España.

Alberto Contador's New Sidi Genius Shoes

Last week Alberto Contador made a visit to the Sidi Sport general headquarters in Maser (TV). All the Sidi Sport staff were on hand for the occasion to meet one of their greatest champions who has won the Tour, the Giro and the Vuelta wearing Sidi shoes.

Contador was presented with a special edition of Sidi Genius 6.6 Carbon shoes. The Genius 6.6 Carbon shoes, together with the Ergo 2 Carbon shoes, are the top of the line models in the 2010 Sidi Sport collection. Compared to the models worn by Contador in his last two seasons, the main improvements involve the introduction of the new Carbon Lite Sole, made by hand and developed using a mix of composite materials intended to maximise the resistance of the sole which undergoes prolonged stress during racing and to make it both lighter and crush proof over time. The shoe also features new graphics to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sidi Sport in 2010.

Alberto Contador’s new shoe is the Genius 6.6 Carbon with a full white cover enhanced with golden finishing on the uppers; the technical closure and heel are completed with graphics featuring three crowns: yellow, pink and gold to commemorate his three respective victories in the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España.

“I’d like to thank Dino Signori and the entire Sidi Sport staff for this new model, but particularly for the attention and care with which they support me.", explained Contador. "With Sidi shoes up until now I ’ve enjoyed the most beautiful results of my career and I hope to obtain many more. As far as I’m concerned, 2010 will be a very important season, but it will also be important for Sidi Sport, who will celebrate the extraordinary milestone of 50 years. This anniversary highlights the tradition and quality which have always distinguished the company.”

Sidi Sport was founded in 1960 by Dino Signori, who continues to manage the company today with the same passion and enthusiasm as when he started. Sidi has become part of cycling legend thanks to extraordinary performances by champions such as Bernard Hinault, FrancescoMoser, Sean Kelly, Giuseppe Saronni, Laurent Fignon, Maurizio Fondriest, Miguel Indurain, Tony Rominger, just to name a few. More recently the great classics riders Michele Bartoli and Franco Ballerini, and two World Championships and Olympic gold for Paolo Bettini wore Sidi shoes. Now the torch has been passed to the next generation with Contador, Valverde, Sanchez, Gilbert, Pozzato and other young talent.
